One of my fondest memories as a child
is the countless hours that my mother and I spent playing Yahtzee.
She still has many of our old score sheets. When my parents
finally entered the digital age, she asked me to 'put' Yahtzee on her
new computer. At the time, my search for 'Yahtzee' yielded
nothing, I was so frustrated that I set out to make my own version for
her. After I was complete, I showed some friends from work and
asked for their feedback of the game. One of my friends told me that I should
make it into a shareware game.
While researching shareware rules and
etiquette, I realized that any exact replica of Yahtzee would be a
copyright infringement and that many programmers simply alter the game content
and change the name to something similar. A 'new' search
for Yahtzee, using this new knowledge finally turned up a few
games. Apparently, my initial search was not very thorough.
A few months later, Mom's Yahtzee game
emerged as YAKzee. A few years later, and several improvements
along the way, this is where I am at. I have received a fair
amount of positive feedback. My intention
is to make it so that two users can play via the internet, but that's this
years project. When that's complete, I will finally be able to
play YAKzee with mom from 1200 miles away. If you are curious.. of
course Mom likes it, at least that is what she tells me.
Please feel free to download
YAKzee. I enjoy hearing everyone's comments, feedback, and recommendations.
So drop me an e-mail
and tell me what you think. - Thank you
